What are domain validated (DV) SSL certificates?

Domain validated SSL certificates are the quickest certificate type to be issued. Anyone can apply for an SSL certificate, but certificate requests have to be approved by someone within the organization who has control over the website – typically the webmaster or the person who registered the domain.
